This just in from the Puppy Department at Mr. S Leather *wiggle wiggle wruffs*
On this episode of ‘XR University’ show host Ian Rath along with co-host Aiden Starr and special guest Lana Violet talk about Roleplaying; puppy play, slave play, medical play. Also they discuss how to communicate to your partner when you’re frolicking about deep within the roles you are playing. Right after a quick break our hosts get Lana dressed up like a puppy and make her masturbate until she squirts all over the bondage horse. A very exciting and stimulating episode of XR-U.
pups note: Not entirely about Puppy Play but a good portion of the video has Lana acting as a slutty puppy *wiggle wiggle wruffs*

Team Recon headed to Berlin for Folsom Europe! Whilst we were there we got the very talented photographer Paul Green to shoot one of our members kinkyalexc, known to his puppy friends as Bolt Pup. It was an absolute blast taking him around to several Berlin landmarks and seeing how the locals and tourists reacted.
You’ve probably heard about it from the growing number of gay men (and women) getting into it. Puppy play is the new kid on the kinky block. But before you go out and buy a collar, you need to know some basic information.
Puppy play is one of countless different “scenes” in the world of kink. Scenes usually involve a certain power dynamic—a dominant role and a submissive role. Some scenes, like “slave and master,” have extreme power differences between roles. Some slaves hand over all aspects of their lives to their “masters,” including their finances and living space.
In my opinion, pup play falls on the opposite end of the spectrum than “slave and master,” and I believe this is part of its growing appeal. The power dynamic is very relaxed. In fact, some have argued that there is no power difference at all. You treat pups as you treat our canine counterparts, with love and affection. (No, actual canines are not involved.)
I’m a pup. When I meet a “handler”—someone who prefers the domimant side of the scene—I bark, wag my “tail,” and (if he’ll let me) bury my face in his crotch. This is me in my “pup” headspace. When a guy scratches my head and says “good boy,” he’s in his “handler” headspace. I think puppy play is great for kinky beginners, and here are my reasons why.

As request, this document is being written about common misconceptions that revolve around the area of pet play within the BDSM community.
#1 PET PLAY MEANS BEASTIALITY
No, no, no. Not even close! Most participants in pet play keep everything nonsexual. We don’t come anywhere close to screwing animals. There are some specific types of ponies within pony play that are specific to sexual play (look up breeding pony and pleasure pony).
#2 PET PLAY IS ALWAYS ABOUT HUMILIATION
I like to see pet play as one big room. On one half of the room, you have humiliation, and the other half, you have a persona. For the humiliation side, those in a Dom-sub relationship will have their sub go into their “pet” state, but only on command. It is often used as a tool for discipline or punishment. Those on this side are sometimes forced to vocalize on command. Then we have the other side of the room. This is the persona side (as I like to call it). For these people who partcipate in pet play, it’s often seen as a more comfortable way to express your own “inner self”. The pets go into their role willingly (without being told to), and when you can pet play as humiliation for them, they might take offense to it (many people who I’ve talked to in the pet play community who choose to go into their pet persona without being commanded to by their Dom agree with this notion).
#3 ALL PETS ARE EITHER CATS OR DOGS
Nope, no animal is off limits for the pet in an Owner-pet BDSM relationship. Some animals I’ve heard of within the Owner-pet relationship: horses/ponies, cats/kittens, dogs/puppies/wolves/coyotes, cows, foxes, and fish (rare, but I have heard of this). “Mythical” creatures are also a free for all.
#4 PEOPLE INTERESTED IN PET PLAY ARE FURRIES
Nope. It is true that those who particuipate in the furry fandom can be involved in the BDSM community (and those involved in the BDSM community can be involved in the furry fandom community), it’s not always the case. The two can go together, but the two can also be totally separate. It should be noted that a very small percentage of those in the furry fandom community actually have sex or sex-like activities while in their fur suits.
#5 YOU NEED A COLLAR TO BE A ‘PROPER’ PET
A collar is never needed in a BDSM relationship. Many people feel more comfortable with a collar (or a piece of jewlery to symbolize a collar), but many feel just as good without one. Some people have a large “collar ceremony” for their subs, while others just treat it as a casual gift. There’s different types of collars within the BDSM community (though typical pet collars found in the pet section of stores are acceptable as well, espicially within the pet play community).
#6 YOU NEED CERTAIN KINDS OF EQUIPMENT/TOYS
There’s certain types equipment and toys that are very expensive (I’ve seen tail plugs go for 150+ US dollars). Other gear is more affordable. You don’t need any type of clothing, equipment, or toys to “truly” be whatever part your trying to play. If you have aany allergies, let your partner(s) know in advance. If you suffer from any mental or physical health conditions, let them known in advance (clauterphobia, TMJ, etc….). This way, you can avoid injuring yourself (or worse, death). Before indulging in the use of any kind of play, use of toys/equipment, PLEASE do all the research you can and have a safety plan, in case something goes horribly wrong.
#7 ONLY CERTAIN TYPE OF PEOPLE CAN INDULGE IN PET PLAY/BDSM
The beauty and fun of BDSM is that anyone can participate in any form of play. The only reason why you wouldn’t be able to participate is due to personal limits, mental/physical health, phobias, allergies, etc… which should be respected and observed.
#8 PETS EAT PET FOOD IN PET PLAY
Every document I’ve read about pet play recommends people DO NOT feed their human pets pet food. The reason? We have different nutritional needs from other animals (dogs, cats, horses, cows, etc…). For this reason, avoid pet brand food and instead, feed your human pet a type of food that LOOKS like pet food (cereal, ice cream, oat meal, etc…).
#9 PEOPLE HAVE ANIMAL FETISHES INVOLVED IN PET PLAY
Majority of people within the pet play community DO NOT have an animal fetish. Many people feel like they might be connected to a certain animal spirituality, or just have a favorite animal that they like to act as. Point is, just because someone enjoys participating in pet play, don’t assume any sexual play is there (pet play is NOT inheritantly sexual).
#10 PET PLAY IS ALL ABOUT SEXY ANIMAL OUTFITS
Nope. Many pets enjoy wearing animal-like accessories (tails, ears, “claws”, collars, etc…). For some, just a collar is enough. However, some love going full-out with their outfits (or hardly any clothes). It’s an individuals preference for what they like to wear during a pet play session.

ANIMAL ROLEPLAY IS, SURPRISINGLY, MORE NORMAL THAN YOU’D EXPECT
The meeting of the monthly Los Angeles Pony and Critter Club does not look like your average club meeting. One of the first members I met approached me wearing nothing but a horse mask, complete with a bridle, his penis dangling like an awkward comma between us. The rest of the club members – around 15 total showed up throughout the day – were dressed in similarly kinky outfits.
They were there to practice animal roleplay, with petplay being the most popular subcategory. The difference between animal roleplay and petplay is that petplay is a fetish within BDSM, with the human animal being subservient to the handler like an actual, well-trained pet. Pony play is in this category as well, with the horse wearing a bridle and being trained by a human rider who controls them from behind them with the reins. It’s all about mentally getting into the mindset of the animal.
Animal roleplay as a whole doesn’t necessarily have dominant and submissive dynamics. A person can simply act like the inner animal they are on their own – as if they were still a child and playing house as the family dog. And this is exactly why the whole concept of mature adults crawling around on all fours chasing after a chew toy is not that odd – if you really think about it, hard.
ROLEPLAYING IS STRESS RELIEF
“He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man.” Those who’ve read the first page of Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas will be familiar with this quote. It rings especially true for the animal roleplayers, many of whom say they like the psychological and emotional release of being in their animal character. The biggest concern when you’re a dog is not missing mealtime.
Known as “headspace,” this state of mind is similar to getting into the zone for athletes and method acting for actors, explains Pepper, a human-pet dog who knew she was a dog since she was a child. “I just enjoy mentally going into the place a dog goes in because dogs are fun and curious and enthusiastic and don’t feel guilt or shame – they just like to play.”
IT CAN BE NATURE AND NURTURE
“It’s not that she grew up and suddenly wanted to be a dog,” explains handler Pollux of his human-pet dog Pepper, “She just never stopped being a dog.” Some people are born knowing what their spirit animals are.
Others come into them as they grow older and learn more about themselves. Zarpa, for example, didn’t know she was one until she went through her gender transformation two years ago. After this transformation, she chose to become a fox.
“Foxes aren’t hugely gender-related, so I just became a fox, and I’m female, so I get treated as female, so it’s just nice,” she said.
THE MORE THE MERRIER
“There are probably about 200 people that are members of our Yahoo site,” said Submiss Ann, founder of the Los Angeles Pony and Critter Club, who goes by her submissive name. “We just keep growing…There’s an Ottawa Pony and Critter Club, one in San Diego, I think there’s one in New Jersey.”
As more people find out about these clubs, they’re ecstatic to discover that their fetish has a name and that there are others like them out there. They find their tribe, and in their growing numbers they find a sense of normalcy.
All this is definitely not to say that animal roleplay in general is innocent of sex. This particular club has a more educational, non-sexual slant to it, but there are others who are into it for the sexy aspects (see video below). However, for the members of the LAPCC and groups with similar outlooks, getting into their animal headspace is like an innocent trip to the dog park. Just no humping allowed – unless the owners say it’s all right.
