Shippo the Moving Tail

I don’t know about you but if this ever becomes a real product my dreams will certainly come true..wruff ruff!! For the time being this is a prototype for what the future may hold for us human pets.

NeuroWear currently reports : “In regards to the Shippo-Tail, the tail is a concept that Neurowear demonstrated at the Tokyo Game Show. Neurowear does not have any plans to productize.

“One of the several problems that have emerged since humanity decided to evolve away its tail, is that letting people know how you’re feeling is more complicated that it needs to be. For animals with tails, it’s oh so easy: wagging means excited, not wagging means not excited: job done. Instead we have to rely on facial analysis, body language and passive aggressive Facebook updates to tell how we’re supposed to be reacting to the people around us. Awkward.

Luckily a new Japanese invention hopes to change all of that. Shippo is a human tail controlled – apparently – by the brain. It detects when areas that usually indicate happiness of excitement, and wags. It also uploads your mood to an app that others can follow, looking for areas where people are generally well-disposed. The idea has been around for a little while, but recently popped up again on Redditwith more calls to bring the invention to our shores. Others were more sceptical: “Hopefully this will be the Comic Sans of the fashion industry, maybe replacing the fedora” said one Redditor.

“Shippo is a system comprised of a smartphone-based app plus body-worn sensors plus, shall we say, a health appliance; together the system reads brain waves and heart beats

and then uniquely applies those inputs to improve one’s ability to communicate emotions and intentions.  Oh, I forgot to mention, the health appliance is a tail.  Yes, you heard me, a tail.  I mean a wagging, fluffy kitty/doggy tail that is attached to your rear end (or the clothing covering it anyway) and is simultaneously connected via iPhone to the aforementioned digital brain wave/heart wave sensors so your detected mood can direct the tail to wag.  If you’re happy or excited it wags fast, if you’re sad it sits dormant; there are in-between modes signifying different states of mind.  If you have a pet you get the idea.

“Why,” you ask? “Why does the world need this?” I think you are looking at this all wrong.  I think that the right question is, “Why doesn’t the world need this?”  The ability to rapidly read each other’s moods could well be the cure to the entire Mars-Venus communication gap that has held back male-female relationships for centuries.  But let me back up for a minute.  Did I mention this started with ears?”
